Seasonal Mean/Max/Min CET file format (/badc/ukmo-cet/data/seasonal/)
File format is self -explanatory.
Units: Degrees Celsius
Notes:
seasonal values are calculated from the monthly data by
averaging the three monthly values
Seasons are Dec-Feb, Mar-May, June-Aug, Sept-Nov.
Winter: year refers to January.
Seasonal data exist for Spring 1878 onwards for min/max data, from Spring 1659 onwards for mean data.
Monthly Mean/Max/Min CET file format (/badc/ukmo-cet/data/monthly/)
For the monthly max (cetmaxmly1878on_urbadj4.dat), monthly min (cetminmly1878on_urbadj4.dat) and monthly mean (cetml1659on.dat) temperature data, the file content is as follows:
One row per year, each row containing fourteen columns.
The first column contains the year (from 1659) and from the
second to the thirteenth column correspond to the months where each
row contains the monthly values for the corresponding year.
The last columns contains the annual value. Annual values
are calculated from the monthly data by totalling the monthly
values and dividing by 12.
The units are degrees Celsius throughout.
Missing data are indicated by -99.9.
Also available for monthly mean/max/min data is a file containing monthly mean CET data ranked coldest to warmest from 1659 for monthly mean temperature and 1878 for monthly max/min temperature to date (mly_cet_mean_sort.txt, mly_cet_max_sort.txt. mly_cet_min_sort.txt). File format is self-explanatory. Units are degrees Celcius.
Daily Mean/Max/Min CET file format (/badc/ukmo-cet/data/daily/)
Year to year data from 1998 onwards (e.g. dlycet_mean_2000.dat):
Each year data are stored as thirty-three rows, each row containing
thirteen columns. Please note that there are 2 more rows above the data table for the header.
The first column contains the year (row 1 and 2) and day numbers (row 3 to 33).
The remaining twelve columns correspond to the months, where
rows 3 to 33 contain the daily values for each month.
Row 1 contains the year and twelve monthly average anomalies (with respect to 1961-1990 average (TBC)) in hundredths of a degree. i.e. 52 = 0.52 deg.C - Please note that this row is only available from 2002 onwards.
Row 2 contains year and 12 monthly average temperatures in hundredths of a degree. i.e. 433 = 4.33 deg.C. Monthly mean is calculated from the daily mean data by totalling the daily values and dividing by the total number of days in that month.
The daily mean temperature values are expressed in tenths of degrees Celsius throughout 56 = 5.6 deg.C.
Missing data are indicated by -999. This also occurs at the end of the shorter months.
All years data into one file (e.g. dlycet_min_1878_onwards.dat, dlycet_max_1878_onwards.dat, dlycet_mean_1772_onwards.dat):
Column 1 contains the year
Column 2 contains the day of the month
Column 3-14 contain daily CET values expressed in tenths of a degree. There are 12 columns; one for each of the 12 months.
